Juniper Configuration – First Steps (Part 3) CLI Prompts

In starting to work with my SRX100H, I noticed the prompt changing on the screen but haven’t worked with it long enough to remember the prompt as quickly as I need to.

root% – Referred to as the Unix shell. This prompt indicates you have logged in but the hostname of the device hasnt been configured.

root> – Referred to as operational mode. You get this prompt after the cli command has been entered at the Unix shell prompt.

root# – Referred to as configuration mode. You get the prompt after the configure command has been entered at the Operational mode prompt.

Each post like this will be put in a notebook just like I did with all I have learned over the years in working on the Cisco gear I have come across.
